Adirondack Kennel is located in Boylston, New York, 45 minutes North of Syracuse. The Southern Tug Hill Plateau Region of Oswego County, New york. This area is famous for receiving annual snowfall amounts of over 30 feet! Our backyard is the Winona Forest Recreation area and we usually train out of the Wart and Center Roads Parking lot #1 or Bargy and Center Roads parking lot #2. http://www.winonaforest.com/maps.html

Rapid and Jack (both deceased now) engineering a 14 dog open team.
The Kennel consists of the
Scandinavian Hound, a dog developed in Scandinavia and Europe (sometimes
referred to as Euro-hound) which is not a 'recognized' breed per-se, but a mix
of predominantly Pointer (both German and English Short-haired), Alaskan 'Husky'
and other hound crosses; brought to the forefront of North American
Sprint Racing by Egil Ellis around 1996 and now many (if not most) top open
Class Sprint mushers are using this type of dog. Adirondack Kennel also has one
American Stag hound ( a sight hound not currently registered with the AKC).
Stags were originally bred with Greyhound, Saluki and Scottish Deer hounds. We
are proud to currently have the first Generation F1 Stagsters on the ground
with a current litter on 1/17/12.
Roy Smith is the owner of the kennel which normally houses between 30 and 45 dogs. ADK began with a few skijoring (skier gets pulled with aide of a sled dog) Siberian Husky's ( "Spook of Whitewater Lake lines) and progressed to where we currently have 40 hounds focused on Mid Distances 30 to 100 miles and Open Class Sprint. In 2012 we will give a go at our first year in Stage Racing and Mid Distances up to 100 miles. We use the same lines of dogs for all disciplines; mostly of Scandinavian and European influence.
We also give rides, short tours, clinics and seminars to various groups, organizations and public entity's. Roy can be reached by e-mail or phone if interested in such an event(s) or see the RIDES page.
